Meet the Chef

Mark Berkner

Chef Mark is a native of El Cerrito, CA. He began his culinary studies at Contra Costa College and spent many more years refining his skills in various establishments throughout the Bay Area. After a 9 year career with Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Chef Mark and his partner Tracey purchased the historic St. George Hotel in Volcano, CA. For 6 years, in Volcano, Mark provided Amador County with fresh, seasonally inspired meals.

After selling the St. George, traveling the western US and spending some time in Italy, France and England, Chef Mark and Tracey embarked on their newest adventure, Taste.

Why Plymouth? many people ask. Chef Mark had a plan for the beginning and his vision is becoming a reality. When asked by Sunset Magazine this question here is what he said "This little Main Street needed us," Mark says. "We're going to give it a shot in the arm."

Whether Mark is working with suppliers to procure the finest ingredients, developing new menu items with his staff or attending the Main Street Plymouth revitalization committee meeting he never looses sight of his goals. To provide excellent products to his guests, a great work environment for his staff and to be a proactive part of the community

When not working Mark enjoys dirt bike riding in PiPi Valley, snow skiing at Kirkwood, water skiing, hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountians and spending time with his family and friends. Yes, he does cook at home.
